Earlier today one of my favourite Fitness icons (Kayla Itsines) posted a link to the recipe for ‘healthy’ choc mousse. This recipe uses Avocados as the base, a little odd however I didn’t oppose to trying it.
I love some Guacamole on my Nachos.
Nachos. Sour Cream, Guac, Salsa, Cheese.
Ladies and Gentlemen; this is why I am overweight.
So, for the want of a healthier snack than Nachos, I went to check if I had all the ingredients:
(This recipe in Kayla’s link will give you two good sized pots of pudding)
- Avocado – one large or two medium
- Almond Milk (or milk of choice) – 65ml
- Maple Syrup – 2 tsp
- Vanilla Essence – 1/4 tsp
- Cocoa Powder – 2 tblspoons
- Almonds (for decoration) – about two/three per pudding!
- Mint Leaves (for decoration) – one per pudding
Take the skin off the avocado first and then add to a bowl, add milk, maple syrup, vanilla and cocoa powder then blend until thick and creamy.
Scoop into serving bowls/jars and leave to set in the fridge for one hour.
In that time you could get in a really great workout. I went on a 1.5km run/jog. Then came home and ate (healthy-ish) Ryvita Crispbread and Cheese. It’s about balance.
After the hour is up, you can dress your puddings as you wish. Chop up the almonds and sprinkle on top with a side of mint leaf or place them neatly on top.
Unfortunately I couldn’t get Mint for mine as our mint grows outside the back garden and it was dark. I didn’t want to lift a dandelion or something stupid!
If you’re a little skeptical about tasting this, it tastes quite nice. Obviously its not a match for the likes of a standard chocolate mousse but it’s got a similar texture and tastes more chocolately than Avocado, than you’d think!
Give it a try. It’s simple to make. If you would like to see more of these posts follow me on Instagram or give this a like below!
